Question by Nina Loquita: Need A Nickname Pretty Please !
?
I posted this before but it got deleted: Hey guys! I’m usin’ my sister’s yahoo ’cause I need some help. I’m on Poms and at our Homecoming Pep Rally we wear headbands w/ a nickname on them. IDK what to put as my nickname. HELP! Let me tell about myself: My name is Erin Elizabeth. I’m Armenian, Italian, Spanish (Spain), Lebanese, Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian. I’ll be 15 in the beginning of Oct. Shorter than 5’4″. Luhv football, dancing, tattoos, piercings. AP Honors student.
If you need more info please ask. Please help me w/ a nickname. Thanks in Advance! =)
Additional Details:
In terms of the type, it doesn’t really matter to me. My friend, sitting right next to me, thinks it should be either Cute Clever or Risque ’cause that reflects me. But it really doesn’t matter. I’ll take any suggestions. =)
Favorite Season; Fall or Spring.
Everyone Knows: I like going to parties, I get along with guys better than girls, I speak English, Spanish & Italian. I “exude sexual charisma” (my friend said that about me, meaning I’m open to sexuality and am comfortable w/ it). I don’t have a favorite show or band. I like country, salsa, hip hop, pop r&b, reggaeton, bachata and rap music. I like to dress up, wear sweats or whatever. I don’t have a favorite color. Football makes me happy. I’m usually single cuz I move on alot (except for the past 2 years). I get bored easily. Yeah that’s all I can think if at the moment. Ask if you need more info.

Question by Jose: Do African Americans get along well with Afro-Cubans and Afro-Dominicans?
yes, this includes many of the other Afro-Latin Americans, such as Afro-Brazillians, Afro Mexicans (yes there are some), Afro Colombians, Afro Venezuelans, etc.
And lets throw in even Afro Canadians.
do the African Americans usually identify well with them and have a lot in common with each other?, or do most African Americans think that the other Afro Latinos CANT be black just because they come from Latin America and they speak Spanish?
It seems like the people of African descent always stand out in many societies, and are usually the best in stuff like salsa dancing,reggeton, rap, merengue, swimming, fighting, running, etc. they usually have better rythm than the other groups
I’m sorry I’m just curious to know.

Wow! First let me say that I do not think it is a cultural thing. I know a Porto Rican and his family vary well. It seems like the jerks in his family (his grandfather abused his wife and assaulted his daughter, and his father left the family when he was 1 and his sister was 2 or 3) are married into the family, not born into it.(they both happened to be white)
I love the fact that you say you respect women. Women are to be respected. I’m no fiminatzi, but believe a man should treat a woman as an equal. I also see no fault in a man giving preferential treatment to a woman, especially if she is his mother,sister, or wife. There is nothing degrading about a man opening a door for a woman, or offering her his seat on a crowded bus, and most certainly nothing wrong with taking your time in a relationship. If people gave more thought to who they were screwing around with there would be less violence (particularly the domestic kind, less teenage pregnancy, fewer abortions, and a host of other problems would all be solved or a least lessened. Good for you for questioning something that just doesn’t fell right for you even though it goes against the norm in your family. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are a freak.

Question by Cgirl28: Player boy wants to flirt?
So theres this guy in my school, hes a huge flirt. At times veryyy cocky and jerkish. I was over him when i found out he was flirting with me a big deal and had a gf. So last fri i went to a party of one of my closest friends, and he was there. I told everyone that i wouldnt dance with any boys but i love to dance and just did it but without anything sexual or flirtish with other guys. im cuban so i know how to dance Bachata and Salsa and all that and they play one of those. He came over to me and asked me how to do it, so we danced but not in a bad dirty way but more in a ballroom romantic way, and he held my hand and all. I saw him dance with other girls but didnt pay much attention to it. Then i was dancing and he came over to me and just started dancing with me. All night he smiled at me and was just reallly sweet. I came to school monday and he was outside of the cafeteria talking to some girls and when i come outside he turns, looks at me and says “Jenniferrr” so i ofcourse got happy cause he noticed me but it was not unusual, since the begginning of the year he would come near me and say hi or grab my hand and say hi, but i just acted like Whatever and didnt sound excited or interested just because i was mad about what he did. But i was super happy inside though. So yesterday we were talking and he was being nice, again he would just turn and smile at me a couple of times. The thing about him is that i like him, but i dont know if i should because he’s such a big player. Today i passed behind him and i saw him hug his ex and his ex best friend. I understand that i have no right to be jelous or mad, and that he might be just friendly to everyone but i just feel bad because i dont want to get my hopes up. I know that every time he sees me he says something but i just dont want to be dumb. Help me on what i should do! please. im in typing class right now(; hahaha

Question by desperate to know: i asked the question about how to spell “pulpathea” well i eventually found that it is “Pulpeta”
Pulpeta (Cuban Meat Loaf)
INGREDIENTS (should serve 6)
* 3/4lb. of ground beef
* 1/4lb. of cooked ground ham
* 20 olives
* 4 eggs
* 3 boiled eggs
* 2 tablespoons of olive oil
* 2 cups of cracker meal
* 1 teaspoon each of oregano and cumin
* 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
* 1/2 a teaspoon of minced garlic
* 1/4 of a teaspoon of pepper
* salt to taste
For the sauce, combine:
* 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce
* 1/2 a teaspoon of minced garlic
* 1/4 of a teaspoon of oregano
* 1/4 of a teaspoon of ground bay leaves
* 1/2 a cup of cooking wine (white)
PREPARATION
Without doubt, meatloaf ranks up there as one of the world’s most popular dishes – and in Cuba they feel no different. To prepare Cuban meatloaf – or pulpeta as it is known locally – you need to mix your ham and beef together with two well beaten eggs. Add salt, pepper, onion, garlic and oregano to flavor. Mix these up well and add enough cracker meal so that the meat contents hold their shape. Once you have this, you can form the contents into a large loaf-like shape. You then need to open the loaf by cutting across it, when you can then insert three hard boiled eggs and a line of olives down both sides. Close the loaf tightly, and then roll your loaf in the remaining two well beaten eggs. Add the remaining cracker meal. Place your loaf in a large skillet and brown the loaf in some pre-heated heated oil. Once you have a browned loaf, you need to prepare the sauce to go with the loaf. In Cuba this sauce is known as the salsa (like the dance), which you pour over the loaf and leave to simmer at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for three-quarters of an hour. Make sure to look in on the loaf and turn every now and then (probably not more than twice). Once the meatloaf has been well baked, allow the loaf to cool before slicing and

Question by Rockstar 28: Has anyone here married someone from another culture?
Now I dont mean race, I mean culture. My fiance is hispanic, but her skin is as white as mine. However, her whole family (Cuban) speaks spanish and has never been out of Miami. They salsa dance, they roast a pig on holidays and drive like crap (lol). When we are togther they all prefer to speak spanish and it gets annoying.
I think of the future and if we had kids I would want them to not have that identity issue and just think of themselves as good-ol’ red-blooded americans! If her family had their way they would be hablamos espanol and living la vida loca!
Yeah ; also could I please get an answer from someone who didn’t come to this country on a raft?

Question by proud pastafarian: How is racism supposed to end if people do this?
I’ll use myself as an example. If it wasn’t for my screen name you would think I was white and if I asked “why do all mexicans like banda, mariachi, corridos, and nortenas?”
and sure enough someone would say “youre ignorant” or “not all of them listen to that” or “racist”. you know what you see in lots of questions around here. HOWEVER to some people I am considered a “self hater” or a “sellout” because I dont like that kind of music. I like music of other cultures salsa(cuban and puerto rican), reggaeton(started in panama, got popular in puerto rico), R&B and SOME rap(US by black americans), some english and spanish rock, and other genres. but I can’t help it, I know what I like to listen to and I know what I dont.
And the same goes with dances. I have no interest in the traditional mexican dances. I would prefer dancing salsa, hip hop, tango, break dancing and a few other dances. However I’m a “self hater” or a “sellout” because I prefer other music and dances to my own? So what now I have to listen to “mexican music” and learn the “traditional mexican dances” and be miserable instead of being true to what I am on the inside?
And Im not the only one. I know that plenty of black and white people are tired of people assuming they listen to some genres of music just because they are black or white but yet they get crap from their own race because they “act black” or they “act white”. So you can’t assume something about someone because of their race yet your own people expect you to act a certain way simply because of your race?
So for racism to end shouldnt people be able to date whoever they want, and listen to whatever they want, and identify with whichever culture they prefer instead of the one thats most common among their race?
I swear a lot of us like to complain about how we get discriminated because of our race yet we like to tear people down of our race when they prefer another race over our own?
Choc 1, ok I’ll admit that last part of the added details didnt come out right. what I really meant is when someone prefers a culture other than their own. i have no problems with anyone of my race at all, its just that I dont like a lot of the traditional music and dances. so sorry I didnt mean for that part to come out that way

The only way racism will ever end is if everyone is the same, so that there are no differences to judge people from. It’s really a shame because diversity is what makes this world such a great place.
